Diesel Agricultural Heaters: Stay Warm Out On The Farm

Chances are that most farmers in Australia are more focused on cooling down than heating up when they're in the cab of a tractor. However, late night harvests and pre-dawn starts can bring a significant chill with them, and when that happens you don't want to be shivering behind the wheel wishing you were warm. With a diesel agricultural heater, you can banish the cold from the cab, leaving you toasty and ready for a hard day's work.

In this Buyer's Guide, we will introduce you to diesel agricultural heaters and answer some common questions about their installation and use, so you can decide whether one is right for your fleet.

What is a diesel agricultural heater?

This diagram shows the inner working of an Eberspacher D2L AS3 diesel heater

All diesel heaters are essentially just a combustion chamber and a fan, with varying amounts of additional features depending on the manufacturer. Diesel is ignited inside the combustion chamber as cool air is drawn into the unit and passed through a heat exchanger, where it is warmed before being pumped out by the fan, resulting in nearly instantaneous heating.

Why should I install a diesel heater?

There are several great reasons to install a diesel heater in your agricultural vehicle. Firstly, diesel heaters are an efficient source of heat, rapidly coming up to temperature and maintaining it with impressively low fuel-consumption.

Moreover, diesel heaters such as the models we stock from Eberspacher will intelligently adjust their output to keep you at a constant, comfortable temperature, so you won't need to be shutting it off or flinging open the windows to the cab every 10 minutes when you start to overheat.

What is the best diesel heater?

There are a range of different options for diesel heaters on the market, but the ones we stock and recommend are from Eberspacher. Designed and manufactured in Germany, Eberspacher embodies everything we love about German engineering, and has a reputation for intelligent, reliable operation that won't disappoint.

We stock two models from Eberspacher, the D2L AS3 and the AX1 D2 both of which will warm you up even on the coldest mornings.

Installation

With any diesel heater, it is recommended to install it towards the floor of the cabin so that the heat produced will rise and the unit will always have a supply of fresh, cool air for the intake. It is also recommended that you install your diesel heater with a few inches clearance on all sides to ensure that the air intake is not blocked.
